SUSAN BALÉE (“Ineffable”) reviews books for the Hudson Reviewand the Philadelphia Inquirer and has published articles in theTimes Literary Supplement, the Weekly Standard, the Women’s Review of Books, and the Oxford Encyclopedia of American Literature, among other publications. She appears on audio programs for the National Endowment of the Arts’ Big Read and has published short stories in Silent Voices and the Wild River Review. She has a PhD in Literature from Columbia University and teaches in the intellectual heritage program at Temple University.
